About Us

It was noted in 1997, fewer than 15% of the population in the north were Christians and God has given these pioneers a vision and mission to plant a church that would truly make a difference in a residential estate.

The beginning for YMM was unusual as the group met in a container on a church worksite on St.11 of Yishun. YMM only moved into the GV Yishun 10 Cinema in September 1997 when God entrusted a greater stake to us. It became clear to YMM that we were to make a “TERRITORIAL COMMITMENT and CLAIM” on this residential estate of Yishun and be prepared to penetrate and transform it.

From year 2000, the Chinese Congregation and the English Congregation adopted a more integrated approach as one Church under the leadership of Rev Gordon Aw. Since then, together, we have made inroads into the community through our work with youths and children in schools and educational centers.

On 25 November 2012, YMM became the 17th local church under the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Singapore. On 29 December 2013, our Chinese Service moved to our own premises in A’POSH BIZHUB #05-17/18, having fulfilled all the legal requirements needed for non-exclusive and limited religious use of light industrial buildings. On 13 April 2014, our English Service moved into A'Posh #05-10/11.  We thank God for the favour and grace He bestowed on us.

A Brief History

A group of nine Methodist Christians under the leadership of the Rev Chua Ooi Suah came to the “north” of our island state to begin Chinese mission work back in 1994. It was known as “Methodist North Mission Point”. The Mission Point was adopted by the Hinghwa Methodist Church in 1995 when Rev Chua became the Pastor-in-charge of Hinghwa Methodist Church. Pastor Niam Kai Huey was then appointed to spearhead the pioneering work of reaching out to the mandarin-speaking and dialect-speaking groups in Yishun.

A group of English-speaking members from Hinghwa Methodist Church led by Pastor Benny Ho, set north to the same location and started the English mission work in 1997. The preaching point since then is known as Yishun Methodist Mission in English whilst its Chinese name (卫理北宣站) remains unchanged.
